Therapist observes patient gait on treadmill.

As the weather warms up, we are getting into running race season! At Smoky Mountain Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, we love working with the running population in our community. We treat runners dealing with any acute or chronic injuries, but also offer a running gait analysis and physical exam to help prevent injury and improve running efficiency. We wanted to provide a little more insight into what a typical PT plan of care might look like for someone dealing with a chronic issue trying to get back into running.

Therapist uses phone to video patient gait pattern to analyze.

One of our very own physical therapists at SMSMPT Ryan Marquart has offered to be the subject of a case study tracking his progress in PT as he works toward the goal of running a 10km race in the next couple of months. He has a history of knee pain that has caused some limitations in the past with his ability to participate in a running program.

Check in every couple of weeks on our blog over the next couple of months to track his journey with physical therapy .
