Golf Specific Physical Therapy: The Introduction

Years ago, Titleist developed a credentialing program for healthcare providers to
aid in the return to golf for our patients. Recently, SMSMPT has had two staff
members become credentialed through the Titleist Performance Institute and
create a Golf Specific Physical Therapy Training Program.

This program is designed to aid our current patients in their aspirations to return to golf from injury, and benefit our Western North Carolina Community in building a more efficient, resilient, and durable golfer!
The Golf Specific Physical Therapy Program was developed, not in order to change the player’s swing, but to identify, and correct, physical deficits having a profound negative impact on the player’s ability to swing efficiently. Through
a swing evaluation and a 16 step functional screen, our Physical Therapists will identify functional impairments robbing our players of distance, control, and consistency on the golf course.
After the completion of the functional screen, our Physical Therapists are able to develop an exercise program, specific to each individual player, to address the deficits identified during the functional screen. This exercise program will also be available for our players through the MyTPI app in order to ensure compliance, and 24 hour access for our players.

Our Physical Therapists will then perform a re-evaluation at a future date, complete with an additional functional screen and swing evaluation, to assess the player’s progress. Currently, this program is available in our Waynesville location, our Bryson City location, or at a golf course near you!
Whether you are struggling with an injury, having pain while on the course, or just
want to improve your golf game; SMSMPT and Titleist are here to help you meet
your on course goals, prevent future injuries, and break your record low. Through this process, Titleist Performance Institute and Smoky Mountain Sports Medicine look to build a better, more durable, more consistent player. Both on the golf course and in life!
