Mary Curtis McCracken

Physical Therapist


Mary Curtis McCracken is a Physical Therapist and has a background in Athletic Training. She is a native of Waynesville, NC and went to Tuscola High School where she was involved in many activities including playing volleyball, basketball and softball.  She went to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a BA in Exercise Science with a concentration in Athletic Training.  While there, she worked with the football, dance and cheerleading teams as well as serving in the general athletic training room.

After graduation, Mary Curtis went to Western Carolina University and got her Master’s of Education Degree while serving as the first graduate assistant athletic trainer.  At WCU, she worked with the volleyball and football teams, in addition to teaching physical activity classes such as volleyball, tennis, softball, and weight training.   She received her certification in athletic training in 1999 then stayed at Western Carolina University to complete her Master’s of Physical Therapy Degree in 2001. 


After graduation, Mary Curtis moved to Daytona Beach, FL for three years, where she worked mostly in outpatient orthopedic settings.  She served as the Sports Medicine Director in Ormond Beach in which she organized athletic training coverage for the USTA tennis tournaments in the area.   


Mary Curtis moved back to the mountains of NC and worked as a Physical Therapist. She has a jump training certification for the prevention of ACL injuries in athletes, experience in aquatic therapy, and has served as a clinical instructor for WCU’s Athletic Training and Physical Therapy Programs.   


Mary Curtis provides one-on-one treatments, specializing in the evaluation and treatment of all orthopedic injuries.  She enjoys spending time to get to know her patients in order to develop an appropriate exercise program based on their needs.  Mary Curtis uses a hands-on approach, performing soft tissue and joint mobilizations to address any deficits in range of motion or flexibility.  She also instructs in an appropriate exercise program based on a patient’s individual deficits, allowing the return to desired activities. 


Mary Curtis lives in Waynesville with her husband Luke, and their two children Lenna Kate and Hart.  Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, coaching her children’s athletic teams, and being involved in church activities.  Mary Curtis loves the mountains of Western North Carolina and is proud to call them home.
