Jared Sonnier

Physical Therapist


Jared is a physical therapist working at Smoky Mountain Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy in Waynesville, NC. In 2009, he earned a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, majoring in Kinesiology: Exercise Science. He graduated from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, Florida campus in 2014 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He moved to North Carolina with his wife in 2015 and began his PT career. In 2016, he earned a post-doctorate Manual Therapy Certification (MTC) from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences as well as completed level 1 kettlebell training through StrongFirst. And in 2018, earned his dry needling certification.


The vast majority of his career has been in outpatient orthopedic settings. Jared specializes in treatment of orthopedic cases, especially low back and neck pain, advanced manual therapy techniques including spinal manipulation, manual and instrument assisted myofascial release and trigger point dry needling. He also performs running gait analysis and treatment of running related injuries to get athletes back to sport and prevent future injury.


Jared is passionate and enthusiastic about helping individuals overcome physical limitations, removing fear of performing daily/recreational activities and promoting vitality to maximize quality of life. As a clinician, he is dedicated to providing the highest level of care through evidence based practice and current research.


He was born and raised in south/central Louisiana, near Lafayette, and has a love for being active and the outdoors. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Kelsea, and 3 daughters, strength training, running, biking, hiking, camping, adventuring, traveling, reading and eating good food!
