Mary Beth Newsome, PT
Mary Beth Newsome was born and raised in Dyersburg, TN where she attended Dyersburg High School and enjoyed playing sports. Having a few orthopedic injuries of her own required her to have physical therapy, which struck her passion of working in this field. In 2009, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of Tennessee. She then went on to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and graduated in 2012.
Her first three years as a physical therapist, she worked and was mentored at a privately owned outpatient clinic under two owners who are certified integrated manual therapists. Working with them helped set her foundation for being a hands on therapist. Supporting her husband's career caused them to move to Columbus, OH and then to Atlanta, GA where she continued to work in outpatient clinics. Working with different companies helped to expand her leadership skills through giving presentations, being a mentor to co-workers and a clinical instructor for PT and PTA students. She also continued to expand her knowledge and manual skills with these moves, particularly with spinal rehabilitation.
In July 2020, her family moved to Sylva, NC where she became a part of the Smoky Mountain Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy team. She is ecstatic to be a part of the team and is passionate about helping others get better and achieve their goals!
Mary Beth is the wife of college football coach Nick Newsome, and mom to son, Will Newsome. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising, being outdoors and cheering on the Catamount football team!
